Perhaps, like me, you went to bed last night or woke up this morning disappointed in the outcome of some of yesterday’s election results. People I love may be impacted by those results, and I’ve been awake a better part of the night praying. But, God’s not surprised, and we can choose to trust Him, or we can allow our fears to dominate our thoughts. I began my devo reading, and today’s scripture was Romans 8:35, “Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” And, I heard my spirit speak to me by His Spirit, “Or election outcomes?”
We pick that scripture back up at verse 37, “But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.” OVERWHELMINGLY CONQUER! We don’t just win; we wind decisively! Another translation says, “We are MORE THAN CONQUERERS (emphasis mine)!
Don’t allow your victory be swallowed up in what seems to be a defeat at the polls. The key to victory is in the concluding verses of this chapter, ” For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Vv 38, 39).”
(BTW, I did vote for some winners, too.)
